By Rob Safuto on Sep 9, 2006 in Audio, Podcast, Soundseeing
How about a soundseeing tour? Chinatown is the destination of choice on this episode. I walk from the vicinty of Bleecker St. and 6th Avenue in Greenwich Village, through SOHO to the area near Mott and Canal Streets.
Some places mentioned on the show: Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, Felix, Noodletown, Pearl Paint, Wo Hop.

Nice to see someone else is out there giving people an idea of what a city SOUNDS like. How are you recording these? I haven’t had a chance to listen with headphones on — are you recording in stereo? Have you thought about in-ear mics? I use them, and you can get some amazing 3D sensations!
Nice to have found another “Citycast”

Adam,
In this case I’m recording with an iRiver H320 and an mono clip on mic sold by Radio Shack. I also have Griffin stereo mic that I use from time to time but it picks up way too much background noise to be used effectively on the streets.
I’ve heard of the in ear mics but haven’t checked them out yet. I’ll be sure to check out your podcast to see how they sound.

Rob,
Here’s a file where I used the in-ear mics:
