A bit of a special show this week as I play some soundseeing from my trip to San Francisco. Join me as I prowl the Laughing Squid party at a venue called Mighty, which is located on Utah Street. Thanks to Chris, Martin, Jeremiah, Eric Rice and the rest of the folks who were so hospitable on my trip out west.

Plus a hidden dining pick over at the Fairway Market Cafe and Steakhouse. You can’t beat their $29 prix fixe dinner menu.

And if you’ve got plenty of cash to throw around on your next visit to the city, consider taking a US Helicopters flight from JFK to Manhattan. gets you there in 8 minutes but costs about $160 each way.

Great show this week if I say so myself. We recently hooked up with the folks from Wiggly Wigglers in the UK. We met at one of my favorite spots, the Rise bar at the Ritz Carlton Battery Park at the very southern tip of Manhattan. I gave Heather and the gang some tips on places to go, including B&H for electronic equipment and Top Of The Rock for a great view of the city. Heather was nice enough to provide some audio feedback on their experiences which we feature here as well. And she requests some guidance on tipping. So I do my best to provide guidance on when and how much you should tip in New York City. Featuring music by Scottish rockers Eric Euan.

Ooodles of fun this week on the show. We have contributions from a few really great folks. Mark Tafoya of the ReMARKable Palate food podcast weighs in with another in the kitchen tip. C-Will, a cool New York City based musician dropped us a line about an upcoming show at Crash Mansion on February 22nd. Check the event calendar for more details.

Our featured content in this episode is an interview with Samantha Murphy. Samantha is an independent musician who recently stopped in New York and played a great set at Rockwood Music Hall where I had the please to catch here live. Samantha lived in the city a few years back and she was kind enough to chat about her recent visit and past experiences while here. We open the show with her song, Christoper Street which is about a very popular street in the West Village. This track evokes memories of a celebrity encounter I had on the corner of Christopher and Hudson Streets. And we close the show with a song by Samantha called Silent & Still. Both tracks are off of her very excellent album, Somewhere Between Starving and Stardom.

If you find yourself enjoying the show, why not join the show map at http://www.frappr.com/newyorkminuteshow.

This week we’re going to be doing something a little different on The New York Minute Show. Let’s call it a pod-athon. There’s another city that starts with ‘New’ that needs our help along with many other places on the Gulf Coast of the United States. It’s time for me to be here for them. So I’ll be telling some stories, playing some music and urging you to help out if you have not already done so.

The artists linked below have generously volunteered to donate all proceeds from the sale of their CDs to the relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. So you’ll be hearing some music from them along with the rest of the show. Many thanks for your listenership and support in this time of crisis.

I’ll be providing my usual "inside" info on how to find yourself a bed without breaking your bank. The lodging you’ll find probably won’t be as inexpensive as you hoped, but finding those low cost deals will be a bit easier so you can focus on something like FUN! Also, a short discussion with Jeffrey Goldsmith, host of the Cafe Haiku Slam. As well as other upcoming events that you may enjoy if you’ll be in the city over the next few weeks.

It’s all about finding an apartment on the show this week. I go on a bit longer than usual this time but then there’s a lot of information to give. While not a complete guiding to finding a reasonably priced apartment in the city, you’ll surely be a lot smarter about your options and the pitfalls at the end of this podcast. The podcast is generally broken down into three sections: Apartment Situations, Apartment Finding Tools, Neighborhoods. I also go on the assumption that you’re looking to get the best deal possible. There’s a lot more info I could have given, but the show would’ve gone way too long. This is the most critical stuff. Next week I tackle affordable lodging tips.
