It’s another soundseeing tour this week. I’m in downtown Manhattan on a summer day and it’s time for a walk through the meatpacking district. Yes the meatpacking district. It’s an area on the far west side of the island where you’ll experience cobblestone streets and the smell of fresh meat. And due to a major revitalization over the last decade you’ll also experience chic boutiques, international cuisine, hip nightlife and a hotel with a rooftop garden that provides sweeping views of the the Hudson River and the city. Let’s take a walk, shall we?
Locations mentioned on the show:
Restaurants - Old Homestead Steakhouse, Markt, Meet, Florent, Lotus, The Little Pie Company, Son Cubano, Spice Market, Highline, Pastis, Paradou, Rhone, Nero Restaurant, Hog Pit Barbecue
Bars/Clubs - PM Lounge, Hogs and Heifers, Club Cielo
Hotels - Hotel Gansevoort
Boutiques - Scoop NYC, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Destination, Girl Shop
Historic Sites - New York City Highline - abandoned railroad line bordering the west side of the meatpacking district
