The USS Intrepid, a retired aircraft carrier and one of the city’s biggest tourist attractions will soon be towed to Bayonne, NJ for some much needed maintenance.
According to the official museum website, “Unfortunately, the huge amount of silt that has accumulated underneath and around Intrepid over the past 24 years prevented the ship from being successfully removed.”
So although the Intrepid may be docked on the west side it is not open for business. The Intrepid is expected to return to duty in the Fall of 2008.
That’s a long time. I hope that they can get the museum back in business on schedule.
