The new taxi fare rate hike went into effect yesterday. I reported on this back in September. You’ll now pay double the amount ($.40 vs. $.20) for the time you’re sitting in traffic. Some initial test runs by local reporters indicate that the effect on the overall fares is pretty significant. Not a shock. They tend to sell these things as a drop in the bucket and when they’re enacted you really see how much it hurts.
We got better news on the bus and subway front this week. Planned fare hikes have been put on hold until 2008. So it seems like a smart move to skip the cab fares and pick up a MetroCard.
