New York Minute #32

September 10th, 2005

It’s a soundseeing podcast once again this week as Darren Levy of the Citywide radio show and podcast guides me around the area near New York University in New York City. We’re calling it a back to school show. We roam the area south of Washington Square Park talking about student life in the city, discussing neighborhood topics and coveting sandwiches from Peanut Butter and Co.

Hurricane Katrina Podathon

September 3rd, 2005

This week we’re going to be doing something a little different on The New York Minute Show. Let’s call it a pod-athon. There’s another city that starts with ‘New’ that needs our help along with many other places on the Gulf Coast of the United States. It’s time for me to be here for them. So I’ll be telling some stories, playing some music and urging you to help out if you have not already done so.

The artists linked below have generously volunteered to donate all proceeds from the sale of their CDs to the relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. So you’ll be hearing some music from them along with the rest of the show. Many thanks for your listenership and support in this time of crisis.

OLIVIA GREER: 4 Songs

Folky-pop that doesn’t pull punches. Get it for the intimate, powerful lyrics; keep it on your iPOD for the catchy, soulful tunes.

URBANSNAKE: Urbansnake

Classic Metal meets the modern world.

Shout Out To The Gulf Coast

August 30th, 2005

Portions of the Gulf Coast of the United States including Gulfport & Biloxi, Mississippi and New Orleans, Louisiana have been absolutely devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Cities are flooded, homes and businesses destroyed, power out and unfortunately numerous deaths. My heart goes out to those affected. It appears that relief efforts in certain areas are being hampered by widespread flooding. Some of these towns rely heavily on tourist business to sustain their economies. Much of that business is likely to be lost for the forseeable future until these areas can be reconstructed. Once that does happen, I’d recommend a leisure trip to the Gulf Coast of the U.S. to help those folks get back on their feet again. For those who want to make a more immediate impact, various relief organizations like The American Red Cross could probably use a donation or two to support their tireless efforts to help those affected by the storm.

New York Minute #31

August 23rd, 2005

Are you ready for some NFL football? We’re soundseeing this week from the New York Jets pre-season opener vs. the Detroit Lions. I bring my wife and daughter along as we catch the action from our seats on the fifty yard line (a very good view!) at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Yes, the New York Jets play in New Jersey and they play in a stadium named after the other New York team. It’s a long story, but I give you the background while we watch the game. You’re learn a lot about the Jets, how to get tickets, how to get out to the stadium and most importantly, catch all the fun sounds from the game. A big thanks to The Boomer Esiason Foundation for supplying me with tickets to the event.  Enjoy!
